Middle and Eastern Europe

The European Union is defining a framework for the new member states by the establishment of guidelines with respect to environmental issues, which will require large investments in development over coming years. The targets are almost always very concrete and are tied to clearly-defined transition deadlines.

According to EU estimates, the continued alignment of the environmental standards in waste management, air pollution control and water management is expected to cost over 100 billion Euros. At the same time, this remains the most important region for German foreign direct investment.

In the waste management sector, a stable market has developed, which with continuous optimisation operates professionally. Large development and investment needs will increase in this region over the next few years in the area of final treatment methods. In Poland alone, the building of at least 5 Waste-to-Energy facilities is expected.

In the area of electricity generation with alternative sources is developing primarily in wind power projects. The Polish market is therefore one of the most interesting in Europe.
